The Title I Committee was selected by recommendations and nominations to the School Improvement Team in the fall of 2016.  This policy was developed based on parental and student needs.  Research shows that parental involvement is one of the key indicators to a child’s academic success as well as the success of the school within the community.  The Title I Committee and stakeholders will implement the Parent Involvement Policy.


II. Annual Information Meeting

III. Flexible Meeting Times

Flexible meeting times are offered for parents. For example, some early release days, after school beginning at 3:15 and when staff is available at extracurricular events.  



IV. Title I Part A Planning

Bladenboro Middle School will:


  1. Convene an annual meeting on September 12, 2016 to which all parents of participating children shall be invited and encouraged to attend in order to inform parents of their school’s participation in Title I, explain the requirements of Title I and the right of the parents to be involved;

  2. Involve parents, in an organized, ongoing, and timely way, in the planning, review, and improvement of the school’s Title I program, including the planning, review and improvement of the school parental involvement policy and the joint development of the school-wide program plan;

  3. Provide parents of participating children:

    1. Timely information about Title I programs;

    2. a description and explanation of the curriculum in use at the school, the forms of academic assessment used to measure student progress and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet; and

    3. if requested by parents, opportunities for regular meetings to formulate suggestions and to participate, as appropriate, in decisions relating to the education of their children, and respond to any suggestions as soon as reasonably possible; and

  4. If the school-wide program is not satisfactory to the parents of participating children, submit any parent comments on the plan when the school makes the plan available to the local educational agency.


V. Parent Information and Opportunities

  1. Hold an annual meeting to inform parents of the school’s participation in Title I, Part A programs, and to explain the Title I, Part A requirements, and the right of parents to be involved in Title I, Part A programs.  The school will convene the meeting at a convenient time to parents, and will offer a flexible number of additional parental involvement meetings, such as in the morning or evening, so that as many parents as possible are able to attend.  The school will invite to this meeting all parents of children participating in Title I, part A programs (participating students), and will encourage them to attend.

  2. The Parent Involvement Plan will be available to parents on the Bladenboro Middle School web page under the TItle I tab.

  3. Parents will be informed of the “Parents Right to Know” letter at the annual meeting in September 2016 and how to find it on the school web page under the Title I tab.

  4. Provide information to parents of participating students in an understandable and uniform format, including alternative formats for parents with disabilities, parents with limited English proficiency ALERT NOW has been used for this purpose, as well as, the school web page.

    1. Provide to parents of participating children information in a timely manner about Title I, Part A programs that includes a description and explanation of the school’s curriculum, the forms of academic assessment used to measure children’s progress and the proficiency levels students are expected to meet. This type of information can be found on the school web page and on individual teacher web pages.

    2. Annual School Report Card will be distributed to the parents in November 2016.

    3. AMO results will be distributed to the parents in November 2016.

    4. A survey will be given to parents in the spring of the school year that will allow them a chance to voice their feelings by asking them, “How did we do?”

    5. Annual Review meeting to review the entire Title I program will be held in May.  Parents will be informed, but are not required to attend.  The results of this meeting will be shared at the Annual Fall meeting.


VI. School-Parent Compact

Teachers will send home the 2016-2017 School-Parent Compact with students in their ‘beginning of the year packets’ of paperwork to be returned to the school.  It will also be discussed at the annual meeting in September 2016. A copy of the Compact is filed with the Title I materials.


VII. Building Parent Involvement Capacity

Bladenboro Middle School will:


  1. Encourage parents to obtain their child’s Parent Portal logins a passwords to stay abreast of their grades, assignments, etc.

  2. Hold parent involvement nights and Awards – Alert Now, Flyers and Website announcements are used to communicate with parents as follows:

    1. September 12, 2016 – Information Night/Annual Meeting & “Follow Your Child’s Schedule Night”

    2. November 14, 2016 - Awards/Talent/etc. Night

    3. February 6, 2017 - Awards/Talent/etc. Night

    4. April 10, 2017 - Awards/Talent/etc. Night

    5. June 8, 2017 - Awards/Talent/etc. for 5th-6th Grade

    6. June 9, 2017 - Academic/Sports Awards for 7th-8th Grade

  3. Provide parents with multiple opportunities to volunteer:  the School Guidance Counselor and/or Athletic Director will coordinate this process which includes a background check and approval by the Central Office. Tips for parents can also be found in the School-Parent Compact for Achievement and who to contact. Through Guidance, fathers can be involved via the  “WATCH D.O.G.S.” (Dads Of Great Students) program, which is an educational initiative of the National Center for Fathering. There are two primary goals of the WATCH D.O.G.S. program:

    1. To provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.

    2. To provide extra sets of eyes and ears to enhance school security and reduce bullying.

  4. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.  Specifically, the school will provide reports as follows:

    1. Mid-9 Week Progress Reports:

      1. Sept. 20 & Oct. 11, 2016

      2. Nov. 29 & Jan. 04, 2016

      3. Feb. 17 & Mar. 10, 2017

      4. Apr. 28 & May 19, 2017

    2. Report Cards:

      1. Nov. 8, 2016

      2. Feb. 1, 2017

      3. Apr. 6, 2017

      4. Jun. 9, 2017

  5. Provide parents reasonable access to staff.  Staff will be available for consultation with parents as follows:

    1. By request during a teacher’s planning period

    2. By note, e-mail or phone call to a teacher

    3. By request of the guidance counselor and/or social worker

    4. Bladenboro Middle School will provide materials and training to help parents work with their children to improve their children’s academic achievement, such as literacy training and using technology, as appropriate, to foster parental involvement.  These communications will come from various departments concerning their particular program by:

      1. “Follow Your Child’s Schedule” – beginning of the school year

      2. Technology Night

      3. Curriculum Night

      4. Provide parents with US Department of Education brochures (Title I)

      5. “How to Help Your Child Succeed” Night

      6. EOG/Common Exam Night

      7. IEP meetings conducted by the EC Department

      8. AIG information provided by the county AIG Department

  7. Bladenboro Middle School shall, to the extent feasible and appropriate, coordinate and integrate parent involvement programs and activities with other programs, such as PTO, Band concerts, Junior BETA Club, Science Olympiad, Honor Roll Celebrations, Fine Arts Nights, Battle of the Books, Talent Shows, Athletics, field trips, Released TIme, Mentoring,  Parent Advisory Council meetings, Student Government, Bulldog Academy and Lady Bulldog Academy.

  8. Bladenboro Middle School shall ensure that the information related to school and parent programs, meetings and other activities is sent to the parents of participating children in a format that is practicable and in a language that parents can understand.


VIII. LEP and Disabled Parents

Bladenboro Middle School to the extent practicable shall provide full opportunities for the participation of parents with limited English proficiency and parents with disabilities in a format that is practicable and in a language that parents can understand.


IX. Reservation of Funds:  Not less than 1% of the LEA’s allocations SHALL be reserved to carry out parent involvement activities, including family literacy and parenting skills.

Bladenboro Middle School will set aside at least 1% of the LEA’s allocations for parent involvement activities, and our school will assure a portion of our allotment is spent on parent involvement activities.  We have a plan in place that will address the expenditures of these funds.  Funds will be allotted to parental involvement activities based on needs determined by stakeholders.
